Vacancy

As an MEP Coordinator at HOCHTIEF, you are responsible for organizing, reviewing, and coordinating all activities required to successfully deliver the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations for a project. You will work on high-tech projects, such as data centers and battery storage facilities, where you will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from evaluating tenders and bids to overseeing on-site execution, testing, and final handover of the installations. You will specialize in either electrical or mechanical engineering, but are expected to have knowledge of both disciplines.

At the start of a project, you review procurement contracts, schedules, and HSEQ procedures. During the execution phase, you evaluate contractors' inspection and test plans, monitor the quality of work, and discuss project progress during regular meetings. You remain vigilant regarding risks and deviations, related to safety as well as technique and planning, and ensure they are identified and addressed in a timely manner. You also support the commissioning of equipment by helping to prepare or review test scripts, and you assess working drawings to ensure they remain consistent with the actual conditions on-site.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, which may include Planners, Project Managers, Site Foremen, Quality Managers, and Document Controllers. Depending on the project, the team typically consists of five to fifteen colleagues. While the engineering and physical execution are handled by external parties, the procurement, project management, and quality assurance are managed in-house. You will work primarily in close collaboration with the contractors carrying out the MEP work, overseeing their activities from a coordinating and monitoring role.

If it gives you energy to align engineering with execution on high-tech projects, you enjoy bringing different parties together, and are comfortable handling changes to project schedules, then this is a job for you.

MEP Coordinator

On a good workday, everything goes according to plan and you and your team reach an important milestone. The contractors are able to move forward, the quality is up to standard, and you can see that the project is really making progress.

On a less pleasant workday, the planning gets disrupted, forcing you to spend a lot of time rescheduling.

Firsthand experience

Equipment needs to be installed in a specific area, but the preparatory work to be carried out by another party is not yet complete. The contractor is ready to go but cannot begin. How do you keep the project moving without the end date being pushed back?

As an MEP Coordinator, you first identify which work areas are accessible and can proceed without any issues. You find locations where the contractor can continue working, ensuring that no one is left idle. Next, you reorder the sequence of tasks to minimize any impact on the overall schedule. You consult with the Project Manager regarding this new sequence and its implications for the timeline. Finally, you keep the relevant parties informed about these changes.
